While my first love is bridal accessory design I’m always keen to expand my creative horizons – so when I was asked to create a special headpiece for actress Sheridan Smith to wear for a Royal engagement I jumped at the chance!
The stage and screen star wore my feather headpiece to Buckingham Palace to collect her OBE from the Duke of Cambridge.
Sheridan, star of critically-acclaimed dramas Mrs Biggs and Cilla and the hugely popular comedy Gavin and Stacey, chose a vintage-inspired look for her special appointment – a 1940s style navy and white tea dress which she teamed with towering navy velvet heels.
To finish off her look Sheridan wanted a headpiece to match her outfit – and she turned to London-based celebrity stylist and bridal gown designer Kate Halfpenny who recommended my work.
Kate stocks my designs in her bridal boutique Halfpenny London and suggested an adaptation of my ‘Ava’ bridal feather headpiece design made with navy feathers.
It was a real honour to be asked to make Sheridan’s headpiece for her big Palace appointment – I’ve always loved her and her work and it was fantastic to be able to play a small part in her special day.
I thought Sheridan’s vintage-inspired look was the perfect choice for her too – elegant and pretty and just a little bit cheeky, just like her!
