There is something quietly wonderful about waiting for something that is being made just for you. Not picked from a shelf, not one of hundreds, but shaped by hand with your name, your wedding and your day in mind.

That feeling is at the heart of everything I create. Every veil, headpiece, crown and pair of earrings in my collections is made to order, by hand, in my studio in Sheffield, England. I want to share why I work this way, and why I believe made to order wedding accessories are one of the most meaningful choices you can make for your wedding day.

What does made to order mean?

Made to order means there is no storeroom of finished pieces waiting to be posted out. When you place your order, I begin making your accessory, from the first stitch or twist of wire to the final careful check before it is wrapped. Your piece exists because you chose it.

Made just for you

When you place your order, I know your name. Often we have chatted about your wedding plans, your dress or the feeling you want on the day. Sometimes we have met in person, and sometimes I am creating something custom that began as an idea in a conversation.

I hold you in mind while I make your accessory. It is a personal process, and it links me to you in a way that a mass-produced product never could. There is no anonymous box pulled from a warehouse and posted out without a glance at who ordered it. Every handmade bridal accessory that leaves my studio has been made with one bride in mind: you.

After nearly 17 years of making bridal accessories, this connection is still the part I treasure most. It fills my cup to create something special for someone I know will appreciate the love, skill and time that goes into it.

Craftsmanship Over Mass Production

Many wedding accessories are made in their thousands on a factory line. Mine are not. Each design is handcrafted to order in my studio, which gives me the time to focus on the fine details and quality that make every piece special.

Working to a set lead time means I can give every piece the care it deserves. Whether it is the delicate netting of a birdcage veil, the scattered crystals and pearls of a micro veil or the sculptural shape of my baroque pearl earrings, each one is made to the highest standards.

That is the difference between a handmade bridal accessory and a mass-produced one. One is made quickly for anyone. Mine are made carefully, for you.

The wait is part of the luxury

I know waiting can feel hard when your wedding is getting closer. But the wait is part of what makes your piece precious. It is a little like looking forward to a gift, one you will open in the lead-up to one of the most beautiful days of your life.

I manage my diary carefully so I don't have to rush making your piece, this is one of the reasons I have a lead time in the first place.

While you wait, you know your bridal accessory is being made with the utmost attention to detail and craftsmanship. In a world of next-day everything, there is real luxury in something that cannot be rushed.

Made to order means no waste

Because I only make what has been ordered, nothing is made to sit unsold. There is no excess stock, no surplus materials and no pieces destined never to find their bride. Made to order is the most sustainable way I know to create beautiful things, and it means your accessory is a slow fashion choice as well as a highly personal one. Made your way

When every piece is made individually, small changes become possible. A different finish, a tweak to fit your hairstyle, a detail that echoes your dress. And if you dream of something entirely your own, my bespoke design service is where we can create it together.

Choosing an independent maker

When you choose a made to order wedding accessory, you are also supporting an independent maker. Your piece comes straight from my hands to yours, with no middlemen and no impersonal production process in between.

I believe that adds another layer of meaning to your day. Your accessory carries the story of how it was made, and who it was made for.

The moment you open your parcel

When your piece is finished, it is wrapped in tissue inside a gold-foiled branded box, sealed with a blind embossed label with your care information tucked in so you know how to look after your piece for years to come. Alongside it is a handwritten note from me to you.

That unboxing moment is the final chapter of the made to order experience. It is the moment the waiting becomes worth it, and you know have a piece you will treasure long after your wedding day.

Made to order bridal accessories: your questions answered

What is a lead time? If you buy a made to order wedding accessory or piece of jewellery, you will usually see a lead time advertised. This is the amount of time it is likely to take for your piece to be made and carefully packaged, ready for shipping. The lead time is different from the delivery time, which is how long your parcel takes to reach you once it has been handed to our delivery partner.

How long does a made to order bridal accessory take? My standard lead time is up to 3 weeks for orders from my website, and I also offer a Rush Order option, so you can have your piece made within one week. In the UK, I ship all my parcels via next-day delivery. For overseas orders you can choose standard post or a rush courier.

When should I order my wedding hair accessories? For hair accessories I recommend ordering once you have finialised your outfit and ideally three to four months before your wedding. That leaves time for your piece to be made and delivered, for a hair trial with your stylist (ideally three months before your wedding). 

Can I customise my veil or headpiece? Because I make every piece to order my designs can be adjusted. For something completely unique, take a look at my bespoke design service.

Is handmade better than mass-produced? A handmade piece is made with skill, care and attention - something that a production line cannot offer. It is also made for one person, which gives it a meaning a mass-produced accessory simply cannot hold.
