Sustainability

From our packaging to our materials, from the way we buy to the way we dispose of our waste, we’re working hard to make Debbie Carlisle Ltd a sustainable and ethical wedding accessories supplier.

We plant a tree for every accessory we sell on our website - you can see our live tally here via our partners Ecologi - where you can also choose to donate to their tree planting scheme yourself. We also donate to Ecologi to offset the business' overall impact on the environment.

We choose the carbon neutral option when shipping orders with DHL Express in a bid to mitigate our impact on the environment. Please read on to find out more about how we are improving our sustainability when we make and ship your order.

I have carefully sourced beautiful eco-friendly branded gift boxes to package and store your accessory for posterity. These are made from recycled card and only the surface white paper covering is new. The whole box is recyclable – although I recommend keeping your accessory in its gift box to keep it in the best possible condition! I use FSC approved recyclable jewellers acid-free tissue paper to keep your item in perfect condition - again I recommend keeping this with your accessory if provided inside the box to ensure it is protected.

I use biodegradable, recycled and recyclable postal packaging (recycled cardboard boxes, biodegradeable packaging peanuts and paper tape) and work hard to keep the studio as free of single-use plastic and other non-recyclable goods as possible.

Most of the crystals and pearls I use are sustainably-produced and I also use sustainable satin ribbons for my ribbon tie headbands. The feel, quality, and the way the ribbons drape are exactly the same as standard satin ribbons but, incredibly, these beautiful ribbons are made from recycled bottles and they're also packaged in recyclable cardboard rather than plastic reels.

Larissa wedding hairvine with sustainable gold satin ribbon

This means that if you order any of my gold ribbon tie hairvines or a headband with silver satin wrap the ribbons will be completely sustainable. My silver and rose gold hairvines sit on delicate ivory organza ribbon which also comes on cardboard reels - I haven’t found a sustainable option for this yet but I’m still trying! We can offer a silver or ivory sustainable satin as an alternative on request if you prefer although this doesn’t have the same ethereal quality as the organza.

Where we use materials frequently we buy them in as much bulk as practically possible to keep our carbon footprint and packaging low and we make our hair accessory designs to order to avoid wasteful stockpiling of products.

I purposely make designs that are versatile, comfortable, with a fashionable edge and very wearable. My hope is that they will be worn again and again after your wedding day (balls, festivals, honeymoon, date night) so you can feel confident that your consumption of my designs will be ethical as they won't be a single-use accessory.

I design my pieces to last and to hopefully become an heirloom piece to be passed on to a cherished relative or friend and used again as a much-loved 'something borrowed'. My bespoke bouquet designs re-use vintage and sentimental jewellery to create a sustainable hand-crafted work of art that can be carried down the aisle and then displayed at home and one day become a heirloom accessory to be used by generations to come.
