You’ve found the one. Now let’s make sure it looks perfect on the day. From how to wear a micro veil to how to look after it - here's everything you need to know about this beautiful veil style.
Wearing Your Drop Micro Veil
One of the things that makes a drop micro veil so wearable is how simple it is to put on. My Katya and Katharina veil designs both come with hair grips rather than a fixed comb, giving you full control over where the veil sits on your head. Let the veil hang low for the most romantic silhouette or go for a short and flirty look at the front for a more playful vibe.
Once you've chosen where you want to place your veil, hold it in position, then pin through the tulle and into your hair - the grips pass through the fabric cleanly without pulling or leaving any marks.
Because there’s no comb, there’s nothing visible through the sheer tulle at the top of your head, which makes for a much cleaner finish.
For the most secure hold, before I place the veil I like to push one of the provided grips into the hair at the crown of the head to create a firm base, then, once the veil is in position I push the second kirby grip through the veil, sliding the grip through the first grip to create a cross shape which will give you a really secure hold while allowing the beautiful movement this veil style creates.

Storing Your Micro Veil
When your veil isn’t being worn, keeping it folded in tissue paper inside its box is the best way to protect it. You will need to fold your veil so make sure you keep the tissue paper it came in and use a clean, empty surface. Lay your tissue paper out flat and then place your circulare veil on top of it. Fold it in half, taking the tissue paper with you, to create a semi-circle first, then in half again, until the veil will fit in the box. Take your time with this and keep each fold flat and smooth to avoid creasing.
If you’re travelling to your venue or getting ready somewhere away from home, take the veil with you in its box - any light creasing from the journey will come out easily with a steamer once you’re there.
Steaming Your Wedding Veil
Tulle responds really well to steaming and a few minutes is usually all it takes. A handheld steamer works best - they’re inexpensive, easy to use, and small enough to pack without any fuss.
Hang your veil up before you start so it has length to fall and help any creases drop out. Work the steamer slowly across the fabric from top to bottom, holding it a few centimetres away from the tulle rather than directly against it. Once you’ve worked over the whole veil, leave it hanging to cool - you’ll see the fabric settle as it does.
If you are wearing the Katharina micro drop veil, with its crystal and pearl embellishment, keep the steamer away from those details and reduce the heat setting slightly around them.
If you have any questions about your specific veil, or anything you’re unsure about before the big day - just get in touch. I’m always happy to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I steam a veil with pearl or crystal embellishment?
Yes, but take care around the decorated areas. Reduce the heat setting on your steamer and keep it further away from any pearls, crystals or clusters. Focus the steamer on the plain tulle sections and let the embellished areas hang and settle naturally.
Will pinning through the tulle damage it?
No - the hair grips provided are designed to pass through tulle cleanly without pulling the fibres or leaving any marks. Many brides worry about this but it really isn’t something to be concerned about.
What if my veil is still creased after steaming?
Give it a little more time hanging before you try again. Sometimes tulle just needs a chance to relax. A second gentle pass with the steamer usually does the trick. If you’re getting ready in a hotel, hanging it in the bathroom while you shower can also help loosen any stubborn creases.
Can I travel with my micro veil in hand luggage on a plane?
Absolutely - and I'd always recommend it over putting it in hold luggage. Folded in tissue paper inside its box, it takes up very little space and fits easily into a carry-on bag. A micro veil is a great choice for a destination wedding as it takes up so little space.
How far in advance should I steam my veil?
Ideally the evening before or the morning of your wedding, so it has time to cool and settle fully before you put it on. Avoid steaming it and then immediately folding or packing it away again.
Can I store my veil long-term in the box it came in?
Yes - the keepsake box is designed for exactly that. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, wrapped in the tissue paper it came with, away from direct sunlight, and it will stay in beautiful condition.
